Production Logo

Alice and I brainstormed a lot of ideas for our production logo and came up with the following:
We decided on the lock and key picture because it is a good interpretation of our names.
We chose a picture from google and saved it, then opened it up in fireworks, we started by opening the picture and used the magic wand tool to delete the background. We then decided on  the font 'Bradley Hand ITC' because we thought it was a muture font and would fit in with our opening two minutes as it is a drama.

Main Task

Two minute opening plan
  • We decided on a drama
  • One actor
  • No dialouge
  • Maybe the character has a bad background
  • Locations such as; Beach, Town centre, House
Beggining scene
  • Fades to close up of face - looking out to the sea. Sound of seagulls/waves etc.
  • Incoming call, looks at phone, sees it is from her mum and declines it.
  • Alone during day.
  • Journey home.
  • Sees parents through window arguing.
  • Sneaks in.
  • Runs upstairs, slmas door.
I think the main thing that we need to establish in the two minute opening is to create the sense of loneliness, the character is feeling so we can draw the audience into the drama.

Trainspotting

Trainspotting PosterMade in 1996
Directed by Danny Boyle
Set in Edinburgh
Representation of youth
  • Introduces the characters
  • Established setting
  • Harsh comedy/British humour/Irony
  • Song - upbeat (comedy)
  • Names of characters (comic)
  • Mood of film I thought was manic/fun but in a negative way.
The lighting in the film is consistantly dull and bleak. A scene shows our main character in a dark room but he still has a shadow with makes him look evil/sinister.
  • Football is an improtant part of our culture
  • Symbol is an icon
  • Teen mums and smoking watching the football, this shows the economic decline.
  • Stereotypes - men playing the football, girls watching, probably would never be the other way around.

Storyboard Homework

The homework we were given was to watch 2 minutes of a film of our choice and we had to draw and explain all of the shots that were used.
I chose the film Inception to storyboard and I found that it helped me establish how many shots actaully go into 2 minutes of the film, and I feel that this could help me with my main task as it will help me add more detail to my own storyboard and focus a lot on the planning of it. So I feel this homework task was really helpful in the sense of how much work will need to be put into our task, to make it a half decent 2 minutes of a film.

Halloween (1978) Directed by John Carpenter

In the sense of equilibrium, disturbance and resolution the opening two minutes of Halloween was executed well as, it starts off with a normal house on hallween night (that being the equilibrium), then the disturbance being when the masked character kills the girl, but in the opening two minutes the issue isn't resolved, but the killer is revealed but his parents don't know what he has done yet, as he was in costume with a knife and it is obviously Halloween and people wouldn't think anything of it.
With the storyline in place the narrative of the opening scene is that we don't know who the killer is, we arn't told why he does it, there is no real dialouge to dertermine what the relationship between the characters are meaning that we are not really involved in the film, we are now made to be watchers like the killer. This is done with the point of veiw shot.

Fight Club, directed by David Fincher

  • Fight Club PosterMusic playing at start is called stealing fat, very rocky based and quite a manic song with could represent the nature of the film.
  • Image of nerves in the brain.
  • Names in the opening scene come up as; White, bright, quite manly based
  • All of the writing kind of flashes up, all of the titles are as if they are nerve impulses. As the background was nerves in the brain making the titles look like nerve impulses makes it all fit in with the over all theme.
  • The image zooms through the brain and out of the a hair follical to show sweat on his head, and moving down his face to zoom across to reveal a gun with is then to show it is being held in his mouth by someone we don't see.
  • First line said is a narrative which is "People are always asking me is I know Tyler Durden"

In this lesson I was the only one to be here so I had to come up with the rough, but not final idea for filming. I have used different people in my film as it was easier to get some filming done this lesson then waiting to do it tomorrow.
The idea I came up with was as followed;
Fillmed at parkwood sixth form
  - Molly walks down the corridor
 - Walks into Courtney and Molly and Courtney both drop items in hand
 - Courtney "Sorry" both pick up items. Courtney picks up Molly's pencilcase by accident. both walk away
 - Molly opens door
 - Sits down sees she has no pen to work with
 - Asks Lydia "Hey can I borrow a pen?"
 - Lydia "Yeah Sure"
 - Molly "Thanks"
 - Then starts her work.

Shots that I will use in my work
 - Tracking Shots
 - Extreme Close up (on hand opening the door)
 - Mid Shot
 - Long Shot

This is unfinished, will be finished tomorrow when 100 percent on the final idea.

Experimental Footage

I discovered while working on my experimental footage that the framing angle distance was relatively easy to get to grips with, but was sometimes challenging as we had limited places to film so we had to think on the spot of what angle distance would be best for the scene we were going to shoot.
I found moving shots, such as the tracking shot more difficult to do because you had to make sure you have the exact angle of the person being filmed at all times so the veiwer doesn't get confused at what the are seeing, also you had to follow them but to make the shot count you have to be quite still with the filming and I found this quite difficult as with a tracking shot you don't use a tripod.
The planning and setting up of the shot was quite slow at the start but as we got used to the camera equipment and started to share more ideas the setting up for the shot was realtively easy to do. But I feel we can improve the work that we have done by adding more ideas to the equation and also as we were all new to the filming stage we could really benefit from becoming more familiar with it as there was a lot of mucking about with the equipment as we were having trouble with the different cameras we were using.
Shooting a scene from several positions was very easy as there are loads we could have chosen, so we chose the best ones for the places we filmed.
