In what way does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our film is a sub genre of both thriller and reality. We decided to focus the reality side of the two minute opening as we thought it would make the project more interesting and fit in well with British cinema as most films in British cinema as based on awkward subjects so we thought this would be a good, interesting thing to work with. Also to make people can relate to it in some ways so, this makes them feel part of the film and story line. Rapunzel opens by the protagonist at a MS (mid shot) and this gives the viewers an overview of the main character and her surroundings, it is slow paced so it gives the audience the feel of a calm, paced film opening. We chose to film the protagonist on Hastings beach because it gives a sense of space and loneliness and at the time of day that we filmed it we had little disturbance as it was a cold and dreary day. The lighting is all natural light, so the film sticks to the reality of the genre. It relates to a thriller by the fact that there is a killing in the two minute opening. Also, we used a small area of my house because it is quite dark and bland in my living room and this makes it more mysterious as it consists of CU's and low and high angle shots. The way London to Brighton's two minute opening starts is with silence and with fast jump cuts consistently with CU's which helps define the genre of reality. They don't use any music which makes the whole situation more believable. In our two minute opening we didn't want to use any dialogue as we wanted the characters the main thing that the viewers focus on.
